Holiday Hair Styles with Adam

‘Tis the holiday season again and that means holiday parties for both work and friends. Every year there is a need to have an updo for an event you will be attending. I have created a few simple looks that can be achieved at home this year with ease.

The ever classic ponytail is a foundation for most simple updos. To achieve a sleek look first dilute two to three teaspoons of salt in a warm water bottle then mist your hair.

Next blow dry your hair in the direction of the ponytail with a paddle brush. Once dry, begin brushing through the hair ensuring your head is tilted back slightly to avoid the bump around your neck area. Keep even tension when brushing the hair into your other hand. Secure the ponytail with a hair tie and finish with Defining Glam Power Spray to smooth out the flyaways.

Once the ponytail is achieved you can create a bun or a chignon that is sleek and modern or loose and romantic. All you need to do is loosely or tightly wrap the hair around the hair tie and secure with hairpins.

Winter Hair Color with Jeanise

In my experience, many clients like their hair to be darker for the Fall and Winter months. My question to them is always, “Are you going to want to be light again for summer?” The answer is usually yes. If the answer is yes, I give options between warm caramels, neutral chestnuts, and cool berry tones.

If a client is high-lighted, one way to go is to tone down high-lights with deeper, richer low-lights. If you are a permanent, all over color kind of person, you could also add beautiful natural looking low-lights or complimenting panels of color to your single-process to create depth and dimension.

Using non-commitment, low maintenance, temporary color is another great way of going darker or just trying something new as temporary color gradually fades away with each shampoo. Using demi-permanent color will last a bit longer than a temporary color but will be easier to lift out of the hair if you want to lighten your hair again.

All of these options work well because they maintain the integrity of the hair while adding deeper tones which tend to reflect light making the hair very shiny. Who doesn’t love SHINE??? It’s also nice to have variety and change when it works well and feels good!

Winter Hair Care Tips with Paola

Living in New York City we go through a lot of changes. We are exposed to pollutants, smog and harsh changes in the environment. During the winter months we need to take care of our hair because we lose moisture making our hair fragile and dull.

These our some tips for maintaining healthy. One of the most common mistakes people make is shampooing their hair too often. In cold weather both hair and scalp dry out easily. Try to shampoo once a day. You also need the right products that have conditioning agents like rice proteins, avocado and seaweed. These make the hair easier to comb through and prevent split ends. An easy way to combat static is to spray a small amount of hair spray onto a brush. When done styling, brush from top to bottom. You can also lightly rub a Bounce dryer sheet onto the hair and inside hats. By wearing hats and scarves it will protect the hair from cold temperatures. Remember not to put it on too tight, you don’t want to stop blood circulation.
