Buzz Buzz, Ring Ring. By Ericka Rosero. I Love Hair!

Technology has changed our lives in so many different ways.  If you look in the medical field, the advances have allowed doctors to treat diseases that were otherwise fatal.

Technological advances have increased response time for emergency personnel and have allowed them to trace the call.

And for those who love to shop, the Internet is a field of dreams.  We can purchase everything we can think of without leaving the comfort of our home, and sometimes even get better deals.

When the Internet was made public, that was the best thing that happened to us.  However, technology does have a downside.  Since more items contain computers, they’ve become more costly.  It has also allowed high-jackers to steal identities and damage our lives.

Most of all, I believe it has caused interaction to decrease tremendously between people.

These days, sitting around the table, we all have our cell phones, or ipods, or laptops out and hardly look at or talk to each other.  I find this to be one of the biggest effects that the increase in technological knowledge has had on society.

I feel in the end, it really depends on if you want to focus on the good or the bad.

Overall, in my opinion, although we may be a little less in touch with one another, it has done great for the business and health world tremendously.

It’s Up To You, New York New York. By Timothy Stilson. I Love Hair!

It’s amazing to me how quickly time flies.  Five years have come and gone since I moved to the city that never sleeps (although, I have witnessed it to get very quiet.  Time Square at three in the morning is more of a spectacle than during the day when it’s crammed full of people), and in that five years, I’ve seen and heard amazing things.

One of my favorite qualities of NYC, above everything else is its culture.  Every part of the world can be found on this 23 square mile slab of schist, marble and gneiss.  From the Italian and Chinese neighborhoods below Houston, to the Dominicans up in Washington Heights, to the Greeks of Queens, to the Russians of Coney Island, every part of the world is representing right here in New York.

With its amazing diversity, and its beautiful people comes the food.  Now, I am no pushover when it comes to food.  Pizza, pasta, curries, noodles, pastries.  I love it all.

I, myself, live in a neighborhood in Brooklyn that is predominantly Caribbean.   I haven’t tried the food yet, but I’m anxious to do so.

Another thing I love about Manhattan is that there is always something to do.  I love art and theater, and haven’t been disappointed yet by the museums and shows I’ve been to.

This city stirs something inside, and holds on.  When I go home to Maine to visit family, and then come back, I feel like I’m coming back to a part of me that was removed.  (Don’t get me wrong.  I do love my home in Maine very much.)

You live here, and maybe you struggle sometimes, and the city chews you up and spits you out, and the people can be loud and rude and crazy, and you get away to catch your breath, and you come back, and you’re reminded of the amazing beauty of the city’s people and its cultures, and its opportunities, and it still feels so amazing.

The soul of the city is all of these things, and they make New York New York.

Let Your Style Make You Happy! By Sai. I Love Hair!

Recently, I have had clients coming to me saying, “I’m sorry, my hairstyle is boring” when we have their consultation.  I always correct them saying, “It’s not boring, it’s classic or ‘simple’, and that’s ok.  But are you happy with it?”  If they’re not, I find out what will make them happy, and fix it as best I can.

I myself don’t think there is any “boring” style/hairstyle.  I feel your style should reflect your lifestyle, your personality and your taste.  If your hair doesn’t fit that criteria, can you, and do you want to change that?

Style always comes and goes, ever changing.  What was in years ago, you will see in the latest issue of fashion magazine.

Some people follow what’s “in” with style.  Some people follow what they like or “need”.

The important thing is wearing what you love and feeling you can express yourself wholly.  If you love bright colors, wear bright colors.  If you like to wear your hair funky, do that.  Be yourself completely and don’t worry about whether or not it’s what’s “in”.  Life is meant to be used to find happiness.

Give Me That Beachy Beautiful Hair! By Leila Vea. I Love Hair!

Spring is putting its foot in the door, which means, warmer weather, which also means, hitting the beach!  With the beach comes that sexy tousled gritty hair that we love so much.  It may not be quite the time to lay out in the sand in a little bathing suit, but that doesn’t mean you can’t jump start the season with your hair.

For a windswept style and a just off the beach look, I like to use Davines’ Sea Salt Primer Spray.  It gives a bit of hold and some body, while minimizing fly-aways.

To best achieve the look of a day just off the beach, apply the spray to sections of wet hair before and after your blow-dry, using your finger tips to form natural waves and texture.

Your hair will look full of body and volume, while having a mat finish.

You may or may not have just gotten back from a trip to the Seychelles, but you can certainly give the illusion that you have.

Spring Is In the Air, i.e. Spring Has Sprung, i.e. Get Some Spring In Your Step. By Arleen Quinones. I Love Hair!

Spring is finally here, along with longer days, greening grass and a feeling of starting anew, all bringing the hope of fresh breezes, barbeques and summer sunshine ahead.

Spring is the perfect time to assess the old and arrange the new.

Spring-cleaning can be an excuse to clean out your wardrobe as well as your apartment, freeing up old, maybe tired energy, and adding a fresh new feel.

You want your attitude and demeanor to be light and airy?  Fill your closet with the same.  Bright colors and flowing fabrics will not only make you look effortlessly sexy and light, but they’ll make you feel the same.

Put away those thick winter jackets and rubber boots, and get out the bold colors, pastel espadrilles and light cotton skirts.

Embrace your beauty and have fun!

Shampooing? Not Too Much, Please! By Maria Tsaguriya. I Love Hair!

Everyone wants their hair to feel light and clean (that “right after shampooing, squeaky clean” feeling), but shampooing your hair too often can actually lead to dry, oily or frizzy hair.

Our bodies’ maintenance is remarkable.  If we become too hot, we sweat.  When we are too cold, we shiver to stay warm.  Our body also protects our hair by producing an oil called sebum to create a natural coating for our hair.  So, how often should we shampoo?  Ideally, 2-3 times a week.

Over shampooing can actually lead to over production of sebum and make your scalp oilier quicker.  Not shampooing as often may feel uncomfortable at first but after a few months the amount of sebum your scalp produces will decrease.

If your hair is super fine and requires shampooing more often or if you go to the gym regularly, then there are some tricks to save your hair.

Put conditioner on your ends and apply shampoo only to your roots.  Also, applying dry shampoo can help delay the need to shampoo can help delay the need to wash your hair.  My favorite dry shampoo is Pssst.  It’s inexpensive and can be found at any pharmacy.

Have fun with your hair as well.   Your hair a few days in will be more pliable for up-dos or braiding.  Experiment with scarves and wraps as well.

The healthier your hair is, the less breakage there will be.  Who doesn’t love that?!

Professionalism. By Claudia Weldon. I Love Hair!

How you look, write, act and work determine whether you’re professional or an amateur.  Professionalism is the key to be successful in your carrier.  You can be the most talented person, but if you are not professional you will not succeed.  Below is a list of examples of professionalism that have helped me throughout my career as a successful hair stylist and manager.  I’ve continued to carry these through to my new career with Cristiano Cora Studio.

A professional learns every aspect of the job. An amateur skips the learning process whenever possible.

A professional carefully discovers what is needed and wanted. An amateur assumes what others need and want.

A professional looks, speaks and dresses like a professional. An amateur is sloppy in appearance and speech.

A professional keeps his or her work area clean and orderly. An amateur has a messy, confused or dirty work area.

A professional is focused and clear-headed. An amateur is confused and distracted.

A professional does not let mistakes slide by. An amateur ignores or hides mistakes.

A professional jumps into difficult assignments. An amateur tries to get out of difficult work.

A professional completes projects as soon as possible. An amateur is surrounded by unfinished work piled on top of unfinished work.

A professional remains levelheaded and optimistic. An amateur gets upset and assumes the worst.

A professional handles money and accounts very carefully. An amateur is sloppy with money or accounts.

A professional faces up to other people’s upsets and problems. An amateur avoids others’ problems.

A professional uses higher emotional tones: Enthusiasm, cheerfulness, interest, and contentment. An amateur uses lower emotional tones: anger, hostility, resentment, fear, victimizing.

A professional persists until the objective is achieved. An amateur gives up at the first opportunity.

A professional produces more than expected. An amateur produces just enough to get by.

A professional produces a high-quality product or service. An amateur produces a medium-to-low quality product or service.

A professional earns high pay. An amateur earns low pay and feels it’s unfair.

A professional has a promising future. An amateur has an uncertain future.

The first step to making yourself a professional is to decide you ARE a professional.  Are you a professional?
