Fall Trends. By Roger Garcia. I Love Hair!

I absolutely love fall in the city, it’s the one time of the year when you can wear two contradictory items of clothing and make it work by throwing a biker jacket and some shades on.  Although I myself sometimes like to pull a Ash & Mary Kate and pile up all the layers, it’s gets a confusing with trying to make things work for our body types and keeping in mind out own personal style.

One must have this season that seem to be BIG are the oversized coats that have been seen for Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, and even Donna Karen’s more tailored wear to work look.  These coats are absolutely perfect in the sense that you no longer have to pile on those crazy amounts of layers.  Which gives you a bigger advantage at wearing something form fitting underneath.  The unveiling of the outfit as you take off one of these beautiful coats of is amazing.  And if you like attention as much I as do, you’ll appreciate the stares.

If you’re not feeling the oversized coat trend then opt for the complete opposite my favorite year round, the classic motorcycle jacket.  Bally have done some amazingly beautiful Jackets with amazing embellishments to die for.  Wearing one of these jackets allow for all your curves to accentuated especially with the belt buckle.  If your looking or a lore classic motorcycle jacket then go straight for the Original Schotts Motorcycle Jacket, my absolute favorite.

If all this leather is too hardcore for you and you prefer something a little subtler, Valentino recently debuted the Valentino Garavani line, which is absolutely marvelous.  This collection includes many crystal trimmed leather goods including some of my favorite, the crystal trimmed leather gloves.

Dust It, Miracle Powder. By Claudia Weldon. I Love Hair!

Are you always struggling to maintain volume in your hairstyle?  Try Dust It, by Schwarzkopf Professionals.

This matte powder provides excellent volume and control without weighing the hair down or giving it a greasy sheen.  Dust It will give your hair that “second day” look and feel instantly.

To get maximum root lift, apply on dry hair, taking sections and sprinkling a small amount at the root in areas where you desire volume.  Then shake your hair up to activate the powder.  You’ll be left with nice volume and control that is movable.  If you feel through the day that your hair is becoming limp, just re-tousle it to keep the volume going.

For an all over messy look on short hair, sprinkle a liberal amount into your palm and rub hands together.  Run your hands through your hair and arrange to your liking.

This product is a great wizard for limp lifeless hair.  Come in and try it out!

Welcome To the Dark Side. By Krystal Santiago. I Love Hair

Vampire Diaries, True Blood, Twilight, Hotel Transylvania and Dark Shadows are just a few of the movies and shows celebrating the night creature.  It’s no wonder vampy looks are taking off off of the big screen as well; especially with fall and Halloween around the corner.  But why wait until October 31st to try the look out?

Hair:  If you are bold and daring, go for Rihanna’s cut and color circa “Disturbia”.  If you’re not too big on drastic change, then try a new color.  Burgundy, plums and platinum blondes are great colors, whether they’re covering the whole head, or just accenting the face with a framing panel.

Face:  Smokey eyes are amazing, but can be too heavy for everyday work.  Try a nude eye w/ heavy black eyeliner.  (Smudge a bit for an added effect.)  You can even add a wing (my personal favorite) heading from the outside of your upper lid towards the end of your eyebrow.  If you go with a strong colored eye shadow, then tame it with a nude lipstick (“Cherub” by Kat Von D is nice.)  However, if you go with a nude eye shadow, then make sure you wear a dark lip color.  (“Rebel” by MAC is my favorite!)

Nails:  Dark nails are always eye catching and complimentary.  It doesn’t matter if they are long or short.  Pointed nails are trending right now; and what can be any more Vampire than a wine colored pointed nail?

Warning:  All of these dark reds and drastic effects are more than wonderful when pared properly.  Do not use them all together (dark with dark/light with light), unless goth or undead is truly the look you wish to achieve.  Have fun mixing and matching, and remember, the idea is mysterious and sexy, not dangerous and spooky.

Oui Oui! S’il vous plaît! By Roger Garcia. I Love Hair!

It has become very apparent that most recently a huge trend that seems to be prominent with women in New York seems to be the return of the hair barrette.  Not to be confused with over the top scrunchies or even plain elastic bands.  Hair barrettes, once thought to be plastic childish objects from which to clip children’s bang out their face, have recently had a major up hauling.

They are now beautifully adorned with pearls, and even gold ribbons, which seem to mimic actual fabric.  There really isn’t a wrong way to wear these beautiful accessories.   Just keep in mind that they’re meant to accent your hair, not necessarily become your overall look.  Try doing a low-slung chignon and casually clip the beret to the outer side of it.

Also making a big turn out this season seems to be the use of hair combs, which can also be beautifully adorned.  Not so long ago they were mainly used to keep certain pieces of hair that tend to fall out of place, kept in place.  But, with their recent refurbishment, women seem to be using them for just that as well as a classic accessory with a little black dress, and minimalistic jewels.
