International Beauty Show 2011 by Arnulfo Garcia

In 1999 I went to my first International Beauty Show at the Jacob Javits Center.  I was instantly overwhelmed by the creative energy from the platform artists, the great deals and the immense scale of the show itself.  In its 94th year, IBS New York is the longest running and largest beauty event in the nation. I’ve been attending almost every year since because of the latest trends, innovations, techniques, products and tools. I will have a chance to learn new techniques and tips right on the show floor through in-booth education and platform demonstrations.

IBS attracts 50,000+ salon professionals, leading educators and platform artists from 79 countries.  It is a social gathering as well as a industry networking event. Without fail, I usually run into beauty school friends or people I’ve worked with in the past.  As a New York hairstylist, I believe it is essential to attend annually to stay current on latest trends.

The International Beauty Show runs from March 6th- 8th at the Jacob Javits Center.

Locks of Love by Debbie

Last week I was excited to change the look of Chris Ng, a client of ours with hair down to her waist. I asked her if she would mind donating the cut hair to a non-profit organization called Locks of Love. Ms Ng allowed us to cut 12 inches from her hair which was placed in a ponytail and mailed in a plastic bag to the company. I have to say this was an extremely emotional feeling one I have not felt in a long time.

Before

Locks of love provides hair pieces to financially disadvantage children in the US and Canada suffering from long term medical hair loss due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. Cancer constitutes the second highest percentage of their hair recipients. These hairpieces will provide a sense of self confidence and normalcy to the children suffering from the illnesses associated with hair loss. We here at Cristiano Cora would like to thank Chris Ng for her personal sacrifice to help the children at locks of love…..

Mystical Color by Jeanise Aviles

One gorgeous cold afternoon i had the colorful pleasure of meeting Designer Andrea Diodati…. She’s a colorful dream come true that designs dresses and skirts out of curtains, pants and skirts out of silk blouses and vintage findings. It’s true what they say that you attract everything that you are and it’s lucky for me that i walk through this city with my heart always open showing my colors. Andrea came in this week and gave Cristiano and I complete and total free range to create a mystical look especially for her. She came in with long golden locks that i couldn’t help but cool down so that we could create a more soothing pallet to work with. Then Cristiano created and undercut shape with a blunt line from behind the ears to the other side streaming along the temple area with a few long layers on top….  Once her hair was cut creatively to suit her features and lifestyle it was time for us to play with colors >>hearts<<… Andrea loves to collage and cluster many colors, textures and prints with that said I colored her hair in a way that she would feel inspired to build her look around her new hair color.  In the front I paneled out a 2 inch section on top so the platinum color drapes over the yellow softly and then 2 half inch panels from the top of her head to just behind the ear in yellow and pink to play as an accessory.  She was so pleased and excited about her new look she went home immediately to build fun, playful looks!

Save Your Hair from the Cold, Blistery Winter by Anna Bollozos

The Holiday is gone and the New Year is here!  So why not make some resolutions or try something new.  With the early winter blizzard that came and gone during the holidays, I’m not looking forward to what mother nature has in store for us for the next few months.  As much as the snow is very beautiful outside and comes down from the sky so peacefully, I have not liked what the cold has done to my hair, flat and dull.  I realized that I had to start washing my hair about only three to four times a week instead of everyday to prevent my hair from looking limp and over dried.  I also decided to switch my shampoo and use the Davines Dede shampoo for fine and stressed hair during these winter months.  This shampoo will keep my hair from laying flat and give it a bit of a boost.  For drying and styling, I decided to just spray a bit of the Davines Sea Salt Primer (which is one of my favorite styling products!) to my  damp hair and then difussing my hair upward.  This will add some volume with a finished natural body wave to my hair.  To finish off , just a drop of the Davines Defining shine drops to your palm and run through your hair from midshaft to ends.  This will give it a shiny finished look and now your ready to face the winter cold with your voluminous and shiny hair!
